The Supreme Court has suspended licenses granted to all wood based industries operating in reserved forests. They have the option to shift to industrial estates that shall be identified by state governments within 45 days and developed within six months. This was part of some 40 directions passed to save forests in a public interest case. The order was passed last Friday by a bench presided over by Chief Justice J S Verma , who has now retired.
