The pilot project for comprehensive development of shrimp culture by using remote sensing technology without endangering the fragile coastal ecosystem in Andhra Pradesh is in limbo. The project was mooted by the union commerce ministry's Marine Products Export Development Authority (MPEDA) in 1994 following the outbreak of the deadly white spot disease which affected shrimp crop earings to the tune of Rs 600 crore.
