The Supreme Court said its order banning hawking and squatting from Chandni Chowk area will continue and asked the Municipal Corporation of Delhi to make guidelines for rehabilitation of those displaced due to this. A bench comprising Justice B P Singh and Justice Arun Kumar said MCD will make the guidelines for rehabilitation of hawkers and squatters in different parts of the capital, including Chandni Chowk. The Bench said till the approval of the scheme in this regard there will be no allotment of space for them. Several petitions have been filed in the apex court in this regard. While hawkers are agitating that they should be allowed to carry their business on pavements, Market Associations, including Chandni Chowk Vyapar Mandal, had sought that it should not be allowed.
