SC notices acquitted Himachal Pradesh officials

The Supreme Court has issued notices to eight officials of the forest and revenue departments of Himachal Pradesh, a forest contractor and at least six other persons, who were acquitted by the High Court in two cases of illegally felling trees on government land in Chopal area of the state 20 years ago. A Special Court at Shimla had convicted the officials and some local residents after they were found guilty under the provisions of the Indian Penal Code, the Forest Act and the Prevention of Corruption Act about 13 years ago for their involvement in a criminal conspiracy with the forest mafia in Chopal area of Shimla district.
