The Supreme Court has directed the Uttar Pradesh Government to file three detailed affidavits in connection with the illegal mining operations in about 5,000 sites in forest areas in the Vindhya region of Mirzapur district.The directions were issued to the Chief secretary of the state, Mr. R.S.Mathur, by a three judge bench comprising the Chief Justice , Mr.Justice J. S. Verma, Mr. Justice B. N. Kirpal during the resumed hearing on a PIL seeking appropriate directions to all the states and authorities concerned to protect the depleting forest cover in the forests.
