Hyderabad, Aug. 24: Residents of the Secunderabad Cantonment Board have been waiting for an additional supply of 15 lakh gallons of drinking water for the last four years. The SCB presently supplies 38 lakh gallons per day but the demand is for 50 lakh gallons. Residents of over 60 localities were to be the main beneficiaries of the additional water to be supplied from the Angadi Water Project which as grounded at a cost of over Rs 2.7 crore. Pipelines were also laid from Angadipet village near Medchal in Ranga Reddy district up to Hasmathpet in the Cantonment limits. The Hyderabad Metro Water Supply and Sewerage Board executed the project for the SCB. Both the authorities tested the newly laid line by pumping water through the pipeline about six months back. However, water was not supplied to the residents as expected. While the project itself was delayed due to official apathy, officials claimed that they cannot supply water due to election code in SCB. This was further followed by insufficient water in Manjira reservoir during summer. Under the Angadipet project, water is being tapped from the Manjira main trunk which passes through Angadipet village. The line runs up to Moula Ali. Now, the officials are once again moving to commission the Rs 2.7 crore project stating the Manjira reservoir is full now. However, citizens said they will not believe it until they receive Manjira water through their taps. "Over a dozen times it was said that Angadipet project will be commissioned and we will get water. We are fed up of the SCB and Water Board," Mr J. Ravi of P&T Colony said. Residents of Trimulgherry, parts of Sikh Village and Tadbun, Gunrock and Bowenpally said though the Angadipet project has been completed and water is bound to be supplied, the SCB has failed in setting a date of commissioning of the project. The water board director (technical), Mr S.P. Sarma, told this correspondent the water level in Manjira had crossed 1,651.6 feet as against the full tank level of 1,651.75 feet following good inflows during last 20 days. "Now, the board is in a position to supply the promised additional 15 lakh gallons to SCB areas through Angadipet water project," he said.
