Scheme of planting 65,000 saplings inaugurated

Health Minister V.S. Vijay inaugurated the scheme of planting 65,000 tree saplings in Vellore district in connection with the celebration of the 65th birthday of Chief Minister Jayalalithaa by planting 65 saplings on the premises of the Government Vellore Medical College Hospital (GVMCH) at Adukkamparai near here on Sunday.
P. Sankar, Collector of Vellore, presided over the function. H. Rajamohan, District Forest Officer, Vellore, K. P. Panneerselvam, Assistant Conservator of Forests, Vellore Division, Ravisankar, Dean, GVMCH, and P. Arunan, Resident Medical Officer, GVMCH, participated.
Earlier, Dr. Vijay presented gold rings to six children born in the GVMCH on Sunday. The Minister, who visited the Government Pentland Hospital, presented a gold ring to a child born in the hospital on Sunday.
Dr. Vijay and A. Mohammed Jhan, Minister for Backward Classes Welfare, inaugurated a photo exhibition organised by the Department of Information and Public Relations, highlighting the achievements and welfare schemes of the Tamil Nadu government at the Government Higher Secondary School in Kaniyambadi in the evening. The Ministers pointed out that the exhibition has been organised to enable the public to know about various welfare schemes of the government. They also distributed welfare aid worth Rs.12 lakh to 65 beneficiaries on behalf of the Departments of Revenue, Social Welfare, Agriculture, Horticulture and Differently-abled Welfare. The Collector presided over the function.
Gomathi, District Social Welfare Officer, R. Mallika, Special Deputy Collector, Sankarasubramanian, Agricultural Officer, Raghavan, chairman of Kaniyambadi panchayat union, and R. Vijayakumar, District Panchayat ward member, and Rajammal, Panchayat Union ward member, participated. Bala Sakthidasan, Information and Public Relations Officer, welcomed the gathering. S. Kovalan, Assistant PRO (Information), proposed vote of thanks.
In the morning, on behalf of the All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam, Dr. Vijay visited the Sri Jalakanteswarar Temple and performed Abhishekam to Sri Jalakanteswarar and pulled the golden chariot in connection with the birthday celebrations. Special pujas and ‘annadhanam’ were performed.
