Scientists concerned over depleting forests and biodiversity

According to a report of the Indian Institute of Remote Sensing, Dehradoon, the country has lost 18.4 lakh kilometre of forest land. North east retains 18 per cent of its forested area. The scientists on panel discussion in the recently concluded national seminar on "environmental issues" at Assam University while expressing their serious concern at the phenomena strongly suggested measures for conservation of endangered plants and animals of north east as a whole.
