Mengi has also ordered a door-to-door inspection of the ration cards prepared by the Food and Supply department, and also the ration depots. This will check whether the merchandise, including foodgrains and kerosene, were being distributed properly. The SDM also pointed out that complaints were pouring in against the officers of the Bijli Vitran Nigam for not regulating the powercut schedules. He has directed the officials to remain present in the offices and powerhouses, where the consumers come to enquire about the cause as well as the duration of powercuts. Mengi has also directed them to redress the grievances of the consumers approaching them with complaints and to display in advance, the scheduled timings of powercuts. Meanwhile, deputy commissioner Mohammed Shayin, said had the SDO and his staff performed their duty properly, the violent incident of Kala Amb, where the villagers had resorted to stone pelting and damaging government property, could have been averted. Mengi said that the erring SDO and other staff would be held responsible for the incident and action would be taken after an inquiry. Strict action will be taken against the SDO if found guilty, he added.
