Sea water not a good idea, says DID official

Processing sea water is not a feasible idea as it is more costly than using Malaysia's available water resources. Drainage and Irrigation Department Assistant Director (planning and evaluation) Azuhan Mohamed said desalinating sea water was expensive compared with simple chlorination. Azuhan was commenting on an earlier report proposing that sea water be used to produce drinkable water. He added that water desalination could only be considered for Malaysia's remote islands if they lacked conventional water sources.
