The Himalayas are the result of a powerful collusion of the earths plates in the snow-capped mountain range, a report said today. The tremendous power of the plates grinding against each other not only threw up the highest mountain of the world, Mt Everest, and the 3,000 to 5,000 meter-high Qinghai-Tibet plateau, but continues to shape them, the official China daily said in an article quoting scientists from the Chinese Academy of Geological Sciences (CAGs).
