Seismologists no longer trust the Richter scale

The Richter scale , known for decades as the universal measure of earthquakes great and samll, is now considered outdated and no longer used by scientists among themselves, a leading seismologist has said. "Seismologists no longer talk about the richter scale when discussing the magnitudes of earthquakes," seismologist Lucy Jones of the California Institute of Technology (Caltech) told reporters on Monday.
