With environmental issues becoming a major predicament in recent decades JD Birla Institute Department of Home Science, Commerce and Management geared up to organise a one day seminar on Saturday. The basic aim is to make students aware of issues pertaining to global warming and related environmental issues so that students could come forward and suggest ways to save the Mother Earth. "With population explosion expected to cross 150 crore within 2020, there would be serious environmental problems and unless students come forward and put forth their decisions the looming threat will prevail in the city,' said principal of JD Birla Institute Dr Deepali Singhee.According to the World Bank estimate more than two million people in developing countries die from illness attributed to polluted water, and more than a million people falls ill due to various water borne diseases. Stressing on the need of environmental protection experts believes that population explosion, change in land use practices, massive agricultural innovation and increased utilization of fossil fuel that produces gases like methane resulted in this menace. With real estate projects coming up in the city, experts believes, special emphasis should be given on the construction of Green Buildings "Green buildings are being designed in such a way to increase the efficiency of buildings and their use of energy water and materials by reducing its impact on human he alth and the environment through better de sign, construction and its mode of operation, maintenance as well as disposal. We are planning to construct more such estates in future to curb this looming threat,' added Mr. Pradip Chopra, Chairman Education Committee and Governing board member Credai.
