The Supreme Court's order banning felling of tress and movement of forest resources is still in force, but "large-scale forest demolition" activities are still going on unabated at Sengelijan reserve forest along the Assam-Arunachal Pradesh border near Ramghat, a famous spot for picnic at least till the creation of Arunachal Pradesh. Lands falling in Assam side of the border are not safe. Settlers from from the neighbouring State have been encroaching Assam land. A team of journalists of the Halem Press Club and forest officials, which visited the scenic picnic spot recently could gauge the gravity of the situation there caused by encroachment of Assam land by Arunachalis and felling of tress.
