The Adambakkam lake is among the few large lakes in Tambaram Taluk, Tamil Nadu that did not fill to the brim despite the heavy rains during November and December last year. The lake, which once covered more than 100 hectares, is less than one-tenth the size and on the verge of total decay. Residents of Adambakkam, Nanganallur and Pazhavanthangal and members of the Exnora Innovators Club recall that the lake was fed with rainwater from the Grand Southern Trunk Road, the Military grounds and from the eastern sides of the lake. According to official sources, most of the lakes maintained by the Public Works and Revenue Departments and the local bodies were full. But due to encroachments and discharge of sewage, the Adambakkam lake did not get enough water.
