In yet another ambitious attempt towards cleaning of the Yamuna river, the residential colonies and society flats in the Capital may have to install Mini Sewage Treatment Plants (MSTPs) in proximity to their colonies. The plan is to make the MSTPs operational before the city hosts Commonwealth Games 2010 around the ambience of Yamuna. Surveys are being conducted and the Government and the civic bodies are looking into the financial viability of the project. The cost of one MSTP may vary between Rs 15 lakh to Rs 25 lakh depending upon the technology and the capacity of sewage to be treated. "Environmental Impact Assessment (EIA) is being conducted. Coliform level, utilisation of treated effluent, techno-economic feasibility of localised treatment is being looked after," said a official of MCD Slum and JJ Department.
