MARGAO: Violations of parking norms with impunity figured prominently at the meeting of the South Goa Planning and Development Authority (SGPDA) on Tuesday, with members unanimously underlining the need for strict enforcement of parking rules.
The meeting rejected a couple of building project files for want of adequate parking. The builders will be asked to come out with a revised plan taking into account parking requirements. The meeting saw members calling for stringent implementation of parking rules in the commercial capital to create adequate space for parking. This follows the irregularities detected by a PDA team which inspected some of the building projects in the pipeline in Fatorda.
PDA Member and Fatorda MLA Vijai Sardessai said there was unanimity at the meeting over parking requirements in the city. He said he has submitted a host of his suggestions to the body to increase the city’s parking space. “A presentation will be done at the next meeting on these suggestions followed by deliberations before making recommendations to the Town and Country Planning Board to incorporate the changes”, he added.
SGPDA Chairman MLA Rajan Naik said the PDA will be very strict in the implementation of the parking norms. He warned that the PDA will not approve any construction project which has no parking provision. “We have rejected a couple of projects because of inadequate parking. Margao is facing acute parking problem and we don’t want the same to be repeated in Fatorda”, he warned.
Meanwhile, the meeting discussed plans to put the Usgao market and the hall in order. He said the sopo contactor will be told to manage the garbage as well.
, adding that bids will be invited to repair the hall.
On the Margao market, Rajan said that PDA has drawn up plans to generate Rs two lakh via sopo, which will be utilized for the upkeep and maintenance of the market.
