MIDNAPORE: The midday meal programme in Murari SC High School in Belpahari block in Midnapore West had to be closed by the school authorities indefinitely a day after it was introduced following an order issued by the Belpahari BDO permitting two self help groups (SHG) at the same time in the school to cook the meals. But this Tughlaki order having no precedence from anywhere in the state would send wrong signals to other SHGs in this highly sensitive and Maoist- infested block as some of them have already been clamouring for cooking rights in a school making it quadruple or more, the school headmaster,(HM) Mr Gunadhar Mahato , said. "As a fall out of this faulty system, legal and order problems cropped up in the school when the two SHGs, Sonali backed by the CPI-M and the other, Sib Durga, backed by the Jharkhnad Party (Naren) were at loggerheads demanding rice and other ingredients from the school authorities to cook on 11 March on the basis of each obtaining order from the BDO in this regard,' the HM said. On a written order from the BDO on 18 February, Sonali group cooked and supplied food to 53 students on 10 March and when they were about to prepare meals the next day Sib Durga group appeared with the BDO's order issued on 10 March. In the order, the BDO, MR Bhaskar Pal, directed the school managing committee secretary saying "to divide the cooking job to both the groups every six months' which created confusion for the school authorities. Earlier on 3 March, the Sonali group's venture to cook the mid day meal also had to be stopped when the Sib Durga group resisted with an order given to them by the local gram prodhan empowering them to do so. The school authorities today submitted a deputation to the BDO today demanding a clear order in this regard removing all confusion. "We have also informed the matter to the Jhargram SDO and the DM,' the HM said. Meanwhile, the BDO allegedly tried to assault a ration dealer of Kankrajhore, Mr Sunil Munky, and threatened to put him behind the bar when the latter took some time to show him his papers as there were several hundred card holders in the queue on 9 March. In protest, the MR dealers of the block threatened to close their shops. However, the situation was brought under control when the BDO begged the dealers' pardon in presence of the SDO yesterday.
