The Election Commission approved "in principle" the shifting of slum clusters from Yamuna Pushta, before the forthcoming Lok Sabha polls. The Union Tourism Minister, Jagmohan, plans to develop the area into a tourist spot and a green belt. Following the coming into force of the model code of conduct, the Election Commission in a directive to the Municipal Corporation of Delhi had banned any slum relocation drive in the Capital and had asked the civic body to seek case by case permission for removal of any slum.
