Shinde seeks Rs 6,000 cr for slum-free Mumbai

A high-level delegation led by Maharashtra Chief Minister Sushil Kumar Shinde on Thursday called on Prime Minister Atal Bihari Vajpayee and sought Rs 6,000 crore for developing Mumbai as a slum-free city. The delegation requested the Prime Minister to visit Mumbai on Dussehra to lay the foundation for its development with a bhoomi pujan at Dharavi, Asia's biggest slum. Lok Sabha Speaker Manohar Joshi, who took personal interest in organising the meeting said, "The Prime Minister has taken keen interest and has assured to look into problems of slum dwellers and traffic."
