State Human Rights Commission member S. Varghese has directed the Kerala State Government to drop the move to drain the Vellayani lake for agricultural purposes. The commission directed Kerala Agricultural University dean Sundareshan Nair to submit a proposal to protect the lake in a better way. The commission had visited the Vellayani lake the other day. The Government Order was to reclaim a portion of the Vellayani lake for puncha farming.
