The centre for Application of Science and Technology for Rural Areas is developing a water purification system using the bactericidal properties of silver which will provide clean and safe water at a low cost.Two prototypes of the system have been developed by Astra at the Indian Institute of Science, one with a normal candle coated with silver and the other with clay beads coated with silver, Astra's Prof. H.N. Chanakya said.
