The Madhya Pradesh and Uttar Pradesh Governments have jointly approached the World Bank to address the severe environmental and infrastructural problems posed by the Singrauli Coal Mines lying across the border of the two States.According to official sources, about 4000 tonnes of fly ash per day is being generated by the power plants in Madhya Pradesh, which is disposed of in the form of slurry. The Singrauli super thermal power plant located in Uttar Pradesh also proposes to dispose of its fly ash in Madhya Pradesh resulting in a waste accumulation of 12,000 tonne per day by the turn of century.
