Residents of Sirsaim-Tivim have unanimously resolved to oppose mega housing projects in their village. At a largely attended Gram Sabha on Sunday, the villagers demanded the revocation of a construction licence issued to a mega housing project at Walkeshwar vaddo near Bodiem-Tivim. The panchayat had issued the licence for the construction of a project, comprising 22 bungalows, 10 apartments, one tennis court and two swimming pools. Claiming that they were not taken into confidence before the project was approved, the residents accused the panchayat of permitting the project by ignoring several technical discrepancies and illegalities, which included the approach road, sewage treatment plant, garbage disposal site and availability of water. The residents also resolved that the panchayat should not approve any housing project which exceeded Rs 50 lakh without discussing the matter at the Gram Sabha. They decided that no such files should be referred to the PWD, TCP and other authorities without a resolution from the Gram Sabha.
