All the slum-dwellers in Karnataka State (23,79,084 as per 2001 Census) will soon become the owners of the huts they have been residing in for decades. All for a mere registration fee of Rs 100. The Karnataka Slum Clearance Board (KSCB), the ministry of housing and the law department, have finally come out with the rules and regulations with regard to awarding tenural rights to the residents of every hut in the 23,385 declared slums in the State. The finalisation of the rules comes in the wake of the State government's amendment to the Slum Improvement Act in September 2002.
