A company on Merseyside in north-west England has developed a water disinfectant system using chlorine dioxide that is effective against amoeba and legionalla and applicable in small scale water distribution systems. Activ-Ox, developed by Feedwater, releases high levels of chlorine dioxide by adding a weakly acidic liquid, allowing oxygen rather than chlorine to disinfect.
