Smart driving licences get green signal

New Delhi: Your humble driving licence is all set to go high-tech. The state cabinet on Wednesday gave its nod to the introduction of smart card based driving licences in Delhi as per the instructions of the Union ministry of road transport and highways (MORTH). What's more, the fees is also set to come down from Rs 370 to Rs 280. The smart cards will have computerised photograph, signature of the holder, fingerprint impression and other relevant data. This, according to transport department officials would ensure transparency in the system of issuing driving licences and eliminate the practice of touts and middlemen.
