Vast forest fires have scarred the globe, but the worst may be yet to come. And the main reason behind it is El Nino. While that notorious weather system flooded some regions, it produced horrendous droughts in other areas, making half the world a tinderbox. Over the years fires, farming and logging have wiped out 12% of the Amazon rain forest, while in Canada by May, fires had devoured 3,790 sq km of forest.
