SMPB interactive-cum-training programme at Leh

LEH, Aug 26: State Medical Plants Board (SMPB) today organized one-day interactive-cum-training programme with the Amchies of Ladakh at Leh Circuit House to discuss various issues with relate to conservation and cultivation of endangered medicinal plants of Ladakh.
The team of the SMPB comprised Dr. Farooq Naqashbandi, Dr. Taran Singh and Dr. Zahoor Ahmad visited come to Ladakh with an aim to make the people of this region aware about conservation, cultivation and marketing potential of medicinal plants of Ladakh region.
Addressing the meeting, the Incharge Officer, Dr. Farooq Naqashbandhi said that Ladakh has rich varieties of high valued medicinal plants but at the same time there is a great threat of vanish of many species due to discriminative harvesting of these species. He said that the main objective of their visit to Ladakh was to make comprehensive survey of all areas of Ladakh to get latest first hand information about the threatened and endangered species of medicinal plants and to find ways and means to protect them.
During this programme, the experts of State Medicinal Plants Boards highlighted the different schemes of medicinal plants launched by the government for conservation and cultivation of high valued medicinal species. They emphasized upon the Amchies (traditional doctor) as well as the farmers of Ladakh to avail government schemes and financial assistance to cultivate medicinal plants which would not only help to conserve the endangered species but would boost the economic status as well of the people of this region.
The Amchies of Ladakh during the programme also highlighted various issues with relate to Amchi medical system. Moreover issues like establishment of a full-fledged Amchi Research Centre in Leh and getting recognition of Amchi Medical System under Ayush were taken for discussion.
