Sikkim joined the rest of the world in observing Environment Day by launching an afforestation scheme of memorial forests or smriti bans to develop stretches of barren and degraded land into forests.Inaugurating the first Smriti Ban at the Bulbuley Rhododendron Test Garden in the upper reaches of Gangtok, chief minister, Pawan Chamling asked the people to develop a stretch of barren or degraded land into a forest in memory of their loved ones.
