Felling of trees is banned by an order of the Supreme Court, yet the illegal felling of trees is going on unabated in Upper Dehing Reserved rain forest in Assam by the smugglers. According to reports, about 200 hand-sawing mills are working day and night within the jurisdiction of Digboi, Pengeree and Margherita areas. It may be mentioned that some poachers are regularly hunting deer in the forest area and selling the meat, alleged the Wild Life Conservation Committee, Digboi.
