Lighting at the shrine of Khwaja Moinuddin Chishti will soon be run on solar energy. The Union minister for renewable energy, Mr Farooq Abdullah, has sanctioned a project in this regard. It will not only save energy but also help to cut down the costs.
`'The government has sanctioned a project of Rs 50 lakhs and agreed to provide maintenance for the equipment for five years," says Nazim Ahmed Raza.
The shrine bears Rs 30 lakhs as power charges per year. The project had been technically approved after a study and survey, says Mr Raza.
The shrine receives over 7,000 devotees every day.
However, on some special days, the number of devotees touches 25,000 mark.
`'We also use generator and given the huge number of devotees, we need proper power supply," says Mr Raza. The shrine management has started work on the solar project. The management is also working on reviving old water storage system.
