The Joint Forest Management has come a long way since its inception during the British era. The old style practice of colonial forestry degraded our forest resources. Following the adaptation of the National Forest Policy in 1988, Joint Forest Management (JFM) took shape. The present policy looks at crucial conservation issues geared towards sustainable development. It has made a radical shift from revenue orientation to forest conservation as a priority. A short discussion was made on grassland protection, which deliberated on the effects of using exotic species in grassland regeneration. Some exotic species are said to dominate over native grass species thus threatening the native grasslands.
