Special drive to issue job cards

The district authorities today decided to launch a special campaign to issue job cards to villagers under the National Rural Employment Guarantee Scheme (NREGS). The authorities have also announced that work on 30 projects will begin in 30 of the 240 villages in the district on June 10. The Tribune had carried a story - "Employment Guarantee Scheme: Getting job cards not easy for villagers' in these columns today. The Tribune had highlighted the problems being faced by villagers in the district, where of the 25,000-odd aspirants, only 1,677 had been able to get job cards. The story also highlighted how ignorant villagers had been running from pillar to post for filling forms and opening bank accounts, which are a prerequisite for the job cards. A meeting of the district authorities was called by commissioner, Hisar Division, P.C. Bidhan today to review the progress of the implementation of the the scheme. The commissioner has given instructions to the district authorities to ensure the implementation of the scheme without delay. "We have now decided to take up five villages of each administrative block initially and launch a special campaign to fill application forms of applicants, open bank or post office accounts and issue job cards to villagers in these 30 villages of the six administrative blocks in the district,' said C.G. Ranjikanthan, additional deputy commissioner, Fatehabad, while talking to The Tribune after the meeting.
