Special attention is being given to feeding, safety and treatment of wild animals at Van Vihar National Park. The carnivores kept in Van Vihar National Park including lions, tigers and leopards have crossed their average age. In view of this, constant watch on their health is being kept. One of these wild animals includes lioness Indrani. This lioness was brought at the age of 7 months on February 12, 1992 from Indore zoo to Van Vihar National Park. On March 13, when Van Vihar's patrolling staff saw Indrani couching in the posture of ambushing a black buck they took it as an ordinary situation. But when the tigress remained unmoved for a long time, they became apprehensive and immediately intimated the senior officers. As a result, the officers and wildlife veterinarians swung into action. After close inspection, the lioness appeared to have suffered a stroke in the rear portion of her body. The lioness was given anesthesia and brought to lion housing for treatment. She was immediately treated with the consultation from senior veterinarians. Lioness Indrani's condition is stable now. In view of her old age, possibilities of Indrani recovering from the stoke in her rear portion are remote. However, treatment is going on. In view of old age and condition of above mentioned animals, they are being administered oxidants and tonics as per requirement. Fresh and less boney meat is being served to these carnivores. Since these animals have grown extremely old, therefore, chances of their recovery become remote when anyone of them falls ill. Possibilities of death despite constant treatment cannot be ruled out. It is due to better upkeep, food and health management that many of the animals at Van Vihar have surpassed their average age and are still living. Still, special attention is being given to their food, safety and treatment and they are being kept under constant watch.
