Mumbai, August 21 The Bombay High Court on Thursday directed the high-powered committee, looking into the complaints pertaining to Slum Rehabilitation Authority schemes, to decide on the demolition of buildings in Bandra's Pereirawadi within six weeks, and asked the government to follow its stay order on demolition of structures.
A division bench comprising Chief Justice Swatanter Kumar and Justice A P Deshpande directed the panel to hear the case and give an order within six weeks.
The court also directed the competent authority of the government to visit the site and see if the people had been rehabilitated in transit camps or provided with rent amount within a week's time. The petition had alleged that the displaced persons were living on the roads as they had not been provided with the transit camp facilities.
The state government, however, contended that the developer had provided alternate accommodation or rent amount to 63 eligible persons whose buildings were demolished.
