Sri Lanka government is planning to plant 2 million young plants to mark this year's Sinhala and Hindu New year dawning tomorrow. Sri Lanka's Co-operative Department has organized this program under the theme of "let's plant today and pick a fruit tomorrow." According to the Co-operative Department the first tree will be planted by President Mahinda Rajapaksa at the Temple Trees when the New Year dawns at 5:50 a.m. tomorrow. The plants for this island wide program were supplied to the Co-operative shops by Consumer Affairs Minister Bandula Gunawardena few days ago. The main goal of the program is to develop the rural economy and to make the environment greener.
