Sri Lankan born Forest economist honoured

Visiting Sri Lanka this month is an expatriate Sri Lankan who is a world expert on sustainable forest management. Don Wijewardana living in New Zealand as the Director International Forest Policy, Ministry of Agriculture and Forestry has developed, with a group of interdisciplinary experts from a number of countries, a set of practical tools to assist countries to implement sustainable forest management. Termed 'Criteria and Indicators for Sustainable Forest Management' (C&I) this is a radical departure from the traditional approach to forest management which is based on supplying an even flow of wood over time from the forest.
