Srinagar, Jammu being developed as mega cities: DyCM

The Deputy Chief Minister, Tara Chand on Tuesday convened a meeting of senior officers to review the pace of progress of various schemes launched by the Municipal Corporation here today. He said mega development projects have been launched in the capital cities to upgrade urban infrastructure, adding that prestigious projects have been undertaken under JNNURM to equip towns of the State with modern day urban infrastructure. The Commissioner, Srinagar Municipal Corporation, Sheikh Mushtaq gave a detailed resume of developmental scenario of the Corporation and informed the Deputy Chief Minister that 90 percent of works have been executed under capital city development programme. The Deputy Chief Minister was informed that major projects have been taken up in hand which includes construction of modern abattoir which is coming up at the cost of ` 37 crore, besides, traffic signal lights would be installed in Srinagar city for which the requisite formalities have been completed. Mr. Tara Chand was also informed that 17 Community Halls are being constructed in the city under the 13th Finance Commission. The 834 building permission cases have been approved and 4241 birth and death certificates have been issued during the current financial year. It was also informed that 7817 meter drains have been constructed at a cost of ` 3.50 crore. Speaking on the occasion, Mr. Tara Chand stressed upon the concerned to accelerate the developmental tempo and achieve the targets within time frame.
