Dehradun Senior Superintendent of Police Neeru Garg convened a meeting with the representatives of Wedding Points’ Association to discuss measures to control noise pollution in Dehradun on Monday. She said that the police will take all possible steps to control noise pollution in the district. No one will be allowed to use loudspeakers between 10 pm and 6 am, as has been directed by the High Court. During the meeting held on Monday, the association members were asked to suggest measures for implementing the High Court’s direction regarding noise pollution. Garg said that the police will take action against the wedding point owners if they allow their customers to use disc jockeys or bands, which create noise pollution after 10 pm in the district. This law will also be applicable in those programmes which are organised after 10 pm by the local residents in their areas. In the meeting, the participants said that the people visiting the wedding points generally do not follow regulations on noise pollution about which they are informed by employees of the party venues. Responding to this the SSP said that in such cases they should inform the nearest police station. In case police personnel don’t reach the site soon after being informed about such problems, action will be taken against the police personnel, she said. Additionally, she said that the police will also take action against persons who are found consuming liquor outside the wedding points. Wedding points’ owners were directed to ensure that they inform their customers to bring only as many vehicles as can be accommodated in the parking space available at the wedding points. She said that all the wedding points will have to procure No Objection Certificate (NOC) from the department of Fire Service. The owners have also been directed to take all the possible safety measures against fire within their premises. “The department is committed to implement High Court’s direction on noise pollution effectively and anyone violating the orders of the Court by using loudspeakers in parties or other events between 10 pm to 6 am in the State capital will face legal action,” she said.
