With the de-nationalisation of remaining 171 roads in the State, entire bus transport facility of Madhya Pradesh will come into the hands of private undertakings by June 1. "In the State, out of the 681 nationalised routes, 510 routes were already deleted from the nationalised scheme after the state government in February 2005 decided in principle to close down the Madhya Pradesh Road Transport Corporation (MPRTC). Now the remaining 171 nationalised routes will be de-nationalised by May 30", said Himmat Kothari, Minister for State Transport. "In wake of the complete de-natioinalisation of State roads, a three-tier uniform taxation system would be brought into practice from June 1", said Kothari while addressing a press conference on Monday. The three-tier taxation system will work under two categories. In the first category 171 routes will be kept. Buses plying under first category have to pay a fee of Rs 240 per seat per month would be realized from buses on the first 100 km and Rs. 15 on every next ten km. Though the amount of tax is 1.5 per cent more then what bus owners are paying right now, but in absence of lease rent the amount will come much less which won't be an additional; burden for the bus owners. The remaining routes will fall under the general category, he informed. Under it, the present tax will remain applicable and for the first 100 kms, bus owners have to pay Rs 160, per seat per month for the first 100 kms. For additional 10 kms, Rs 10 per seat for each month will be realised. In all the three routes, general, deluxe and a/c buses could be run by the bus owners. All buses plying in any of these routes have to pay a seperate amount of fixed tax for each category of route. The bus owners of A/C buses can fix timings in accordance to their suitability. The A/c bus owners will be free from tax limit to run there busses in any of the routes. The fair of deluxe buses would be 25 per cent more then the general buses. "The permit to run buses in any of the routes would be made easily available. The State Government has already directed Divisional Commissioners in this regard," he added. This would lead to increase in the number of buses as well as volume of revenue with transport owners no need to pay lease rent. Instead of it, the transport bus owners have to pay The new system has been executed to improve the public transport system and operation of maximum possible number of buses in rural areas, he felt.
