SHILLONG: An eight-member delegation of the MPA Government, led by Deputy Chief Minister Timothy D Shira, will visit High Wall Mining Technology Mission, USA from October 19 to 26 to get the hang of the technology used by the Mission for coal mining.
The delegation will submit a report on its familiarisation USA visit to the State Government which is expected to adopt the technology of High Wall Mining Technology Mission for coal mining in Meghalaya. The Mission technology is said to be economically viable and environment-friendly.
A few MPA legislators are, however, feel that a delegation from the State should be sent to Australia, not America. According to them, Australia has done better than America with regard to high wall mining.
Interestingly, some legislators of ruling parties pointed out that none of the members included in the delegation is an expert on mining.
Apart from Mr Shira, the other members of the delegation are Urban Affairs Minister Paul Lyngdoh, Mining and Geology Minister Donkupar Massar, PHE Minister AL Hek, Parliamentary Secretary in charge of Higher and Technical Education James K Sangma, Additional Chief Secretary WMS Pariat, Mining and Geology Commissioner and Secretary Arindam Som and Director of Information and Public Relations PS Dkhar.
