In the backdrop of the present ecological condition of Assam, there have been quite a few initiatives, which have sought to enhance the quantity and quality of forest cover in the State. These are efforts which need to be encouraged and if possible replicated, because the State that has a rich soil and moisture content need to have an ecological regime beneficial to its human as well as floral and faunal species. In this regard, the Seuj Prakalpa, promoted by the State's Forest Department needs close study, because it could be an effective method to sustain a massive afforestation drive that the State is in need of. Launched last year, the main objectives of the project include the greening of Guwahati within the next ten years, to increase green cover in Assam, and to spread environment education among all sections of people in the State...editorial
