State has tremendous potential for development

Interacting with a Confederation of Indian Industry (CII) delegation, Uttarakhand Governor Aziz Qureshi said that the State has tremendous potential for development. He shared with the delegation his thoughts on rejuvenating some of the important tourist destinations in the State including Nainital and Mussoorie. Assuring the delegation of his support, the Governor welcomed the CII suggestions and urged the confederation to bring in investors to the State. A delegation led by CII Uttarakhand State Council chairman Rakesh Aggarwal called on the Governor to discuss various issues related to the development of the State. The delegation discussed key policy issues including revision of Industrial Policy 2003 and Tourism Policy 2001 and Enactment of the Industries Facilitation Act for proving regulatory framework to the single window system in the State. On the power front the delegation suggested tapping of hydel power potential of the State with appropriate environmental safeguards. Need for a greater focus on small hydro power projects was also highlighted. The delegation also expressed support for the Government’s efforts on Green Bonus for the State. Regarding planned development of Dehradun and other rapidly growing cities of the State, the delegation suggested creation of Greater Doon and a Rapid Transport System in the form of a mono rail for the city. Former chairpersons of CII Uttarakhand S Farooq, Rajiv Berry, Lovelena Mody and Hemant K Arora were also part of the delegation.
