State launches plantation drive

The Gujarat State Government has embarked upon a massive plantation drive as part of "Van Mahotsav' fortnight beginning July 16 during which 180 million saplings of different varieties would be planted on 1,441 hectares of land and concerted efforts will be mad to nurture the plants with people's participation.Of the total 180 million saplings, 20 per cent would account for fruit trees and equal number for medicinal plants, an official release said on Thursday and added the State has 23 per cent less forest cover, according to the national forest policy reports.
