Expressing concern that the inter-state water disputes are not being resolved within the framework of law, the State Government has maintained that adequate regard is not being paid towards the riparian rights of the different stake holders.
The State Government on Friday raised the controversial Polavaram dam project of Andhra Pradesh at the National Water Resources Council (NWRC) meeting convened by Prime Minister Manmohan Singh in New Delhi and demanded that environmental clearance given to the project should be immediately withdrawn.
“I have repeatedly pointed out to the Prime Minister, Union Minister for Water Resources and Union Environment and Forest Minister that the environmental clearance which has been given to this project suffers from serious flaws and needs to be withdrawn,’’ Law Minister Raghunath Mohanty, who attended the meeting on behalf of Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik, said.
