The weather gods may have played havoc for the agriculture sector, but this has led to some gains for the power sector in Haryana. For a change, the state power utilities had surplus power today and it sold the power to Tamil Nadu at Rs 8 per unit. Senior officials informed The Tribune that for the first time, this year, the Uttar Haryana Bijli Vitran Nigam (UHBVN) managed to sell 150 MW of power from 7 pm to 12 am. Though, this is the direct sale of power made by the nigam, the authorities are hoping to use the power exchange, India Energy Exchange, to sell power and get a good deal tomorrow onwards. Financial commissioner, power, Ashok Lavasa said the demand for power in the agriculture and domestic sector fell down considerably today because of the rain.
