BHUBANESWAR: Even as the Centre has made additional allocation of 40,800 tonnes of chemical fertilisers for July, the State is still facing a shortage of 30,000 tonnes of complex fertilisers. The additional allocation was made following a request from Chief Minister Naveen Patnaik to Union Minister for Chemicals and Fertilisers Ram Vilas Paswan. The Department of Fertiliser of the Ministry has communicated to the State Government about additional allocation of 8,800 tonnes of diammonium phosphate (DAP) as against a requirement of 25,500 tonnes for July and August. Although there is an immediate requirement of over 30,000 tonnes of complex fertilisers, the Ministry has not made any allocation. Coromandel Fertilisers has been verbally told by the Ministry officials to supply 10,000 tonnes of complex fertilisers to the State, Agriculture Minister S N Naik told this website's newspaper. While the State has not made any request for triple super phosphate (TSP), the Centre has allocated 10,000 tonnes. TSP is not a popular fertiliser in the State as demand from farmers is very negligible. However, the Centre has pre-positioned the supply of muriate of phosphate (MoP) by making an additional allocation of 12,000 tonnes of MoP. Expressing concern over short supply of DAP and complex fertilisers, Naik urged the Union Minister to make good the short fall of July immediately in view of the increasing demand from farmers. He also requested Paswan to direct Paradeep Phosphates Limited (PPL) to supply 10,000 tonnes of DAP in place of TSP as there is no demand for it. The State also demanded the Centre to provide urea in adequate quantity as demand for the fertilisers will increase in August. The Centre has allocated 3.75 lakh tonnes as against the State demand for 5 lakh tonnes. Apprehending blackmarketing of fertilisers, the Agriculture Department has constituted special squads in all the districts to monitor the supply. For any discrepancy in the distribution of fertilisers, concerned district officials and field staff will be taken to task, Agriculture Director Arabinda Padhee said adding, criminal proceedings will be launched against defaulting officials.
