State targets rice procurement at 32 lakh MT

Bhubaneswar: The Odisha government on Tuesday fixed the rice procurement target for the year 2010-11 at 32 lakh metric tonne of which three lakh tonne of rice will be procured through millers while the rest will be done by the government agencies, including Food Corporation of India (FCI).
A decision to this effect was taken at a state cabinet meeting presided over by chief minister Naveen Patnaik at the State Secretariat here in the evening.
Briefing newsmen after the meeting, chief secretary Bijay Kumar Patnaik said that the FCI that was entrusted to procure 8 lakh metric tonne in the last fiscal, has been asked to procure only 4 lakh metric tonne this year.
The target of the Central agency was downsized this time as it failed to meet the last year
