State to get 2000 MW power soon: Shinde

UNION Energy Minister Sushilkumar Shinde on Tuesday assured that the state would get 2000 mw power from the Ultra Mega Power Project to be set up in Ratnagiri in Konkan region. Speaking to the newspersons after attending a stock-taking meeting at Sahyadri guest house on Thursday night, Shinde said he was aware of the acute power shortage faced by the state and would do everything possible to alleviate the same. The meeting found that the state faced a peak-hour shortage of about 4,500 MW. About the location of the power project, Shinde said, "The land issue is doing the rounds for the last two years. Now, the Chief Minister has taken personal interest to resolve the matter at the earliest.". The state would get 2,000 MW of power from the proposed UMPP, he said. Shinde also asked the state to step up efforts for more power generation in the state for industrial needs. Shinde also praised the effort of the state in reducing transmission & distribution (T&D) losses. Maharshtra's Power Minister Dilip Walse Patil said that the state was hopeful of having surplus power by 2012. Chief Minister Vilasrao Deshmukh told the newsmen that the state had identified three-four sites for the proposed Ultra Mega Power Project and would finalise one in the next two months.
